GVEA Offers 7 Scholarships
GOLDEN VALLEY ELECTRIC ASSOCIATION, INC. 2022 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
Golden Valley Electric Association, Inc. (GVEA) is pleased to offer eight scholarships each year. The scholarships will be awarded at GVEA’s Annual Members’ Meeting in May.
To be eligible for any scholarship, the applicant (or a member of the applicant’s immediate family) must be a member of Golden Valley Electric and receive electric power from GVEA at his/her principal residence.
The scholarship funds will be disbursed to the school or university through the Financial Aid Office or Admissions Office for administration of the funds on behalf of the recipient. Scholarship funds may be used for registration, tuition, books, course-related supplies and tools, and room and board fees. Disbursement of funds must be completed by the end of the academic year for which they were awarded. Any funds not used by the recipient will revert to GVEA’s account at the Alaska Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Educational Foundation.
The scholarships and requirements for each are as follows:
The application period for the following seven (7) scholarships is open November 1, 2021 – March 1, 2022, and they will be awarded in May 2022.
• $16,000 Academic Degree Scholarship (1 awarded)
This is a four-year scholarship. Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school in GVEA’s service area or be graduating from a correspondence study or distance delivery program recognized by the State of Alaska Department of Education and must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5. Applicant must be pursuing a four-year Bachelor's Degree at any University of Alaska campus.
The four-year distribution of funds for the recipient of the Academic Degree Scholarship is contingent upon:
A. Maintenance of a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Equal periodic distribution of funds will be made based on the school’s semester or quarter academic calendar. Distribution of funds for each semester or quarter will be contingent on the recipient’s successful completion of the previous semester or quarter. It is the recipient’s responsibility to submit an official transcript to GVEA at the end of each semester or quarter.
B. Maintenance of full-time student status as defined by the University of Alaska.
C. Continued studies at a University of Alaska campus and demonstrated progress in an academic degree program.
D. Submission of an enrollment-verification form to GVEA upon enrolling for each upcoming semester or quarter.
E. Maintenance of recipient’s current mailing address and telephone number on file with GVEA.
It is the recipient’s responsibility to comply with GVEA’s requirements. The GVEA Board of Directors must approve any waiver of these requirements.
Applicants, please consider all of the criteria prior to submitting an application for this scholarship. The intent of the scholarship is to assist you in beginning and continuing your education goals to a Bachelor Degree.
• $3,500 Academic Scholarship (3 awarded)
These are nonrenewable scholarships.
Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school in the GVEA service area or be graduating from a correspondence study or distance delivery program recognized by the State of Alaska Department of Education and must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0.
Applicant must be pursuing a four-year Bachelor's Degree at an accredited school.
• $3,000 Continuing Education Scholarship (3 awarded)
These are nonrenewable scholarships.
Current year graduating high school seniors are not eligible for these scholarships. Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least 6 credit hours per semester or 4 hours per quarter) or full-time student at an accredited school in a program leading toward a Bachelor's or Master’s Degree.
Applicant must have completed 12 or more credits with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 at any accredited school.
• Career & Technical Education Scholarship: $3,500 (1 awarded)
This is a nonrenewable scholarship.
Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least 6 credit hours per semester or 4 hours per quarter) or full-time student at an accredited school in a 2-year or shorter program leading toward a recognized license, certificate, Associates or lower level degree.
Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the most recent educational institution attended (high school or post-secondary).
