🎓 Instructional Flexibility

Parent-led Instruction: Families can fully design and deliver instruction at home in any way that fits their needs and lifestyle, choosing their curriculum for their child’s learning plan and pacing.

Expert Guidance: Support from caring, certified Education Specialists is available every step of the way to help guide your family’s unique homeschool journey.

Online Curriculum Options: Students can enroll in a variety of accredited online courses, either full-time or as a supplement to other learning.

In-person Enrichment: BEST offers optional enrichment classes, workshops, activities, and clubs throughout the year, providing social and hands-on learning experiences.

Dual Enrollment Opportunities: Take online courses through the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) and University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) to earn both high school and college credit using the Alaska Advantage Program, and other similar options.

Lessons & Community Classes: Families can use funding to take music, dance, or art lessons or take other classes from approved vendors in the community.

Academic Tutoring: Daily academic tutoring is available to support students in core subjects, both in-person and virtually.

👩‍🏫 Education Specialist Support 👨‍🏫

Every family is partnered with a certified education specialist who provides:

• Guidance in curriculum selection and planning
• Regular check-ins to monitor progress
• Support with learning strategies and accommodations
• Help navigating educational choices, ensuring alignment with student needs and goals
• Guidance with grading and submitting work samples
• Help with anything else the family needs support with. They are your education partners!

BEST’s Education Specialists help guide families in choosing a curriculum that meets both state standards and student interests and family needs.

 

🧸 Elementary & Middle School Support

At BEST, we believe that learning should be fun, active, and full of connection — especially in the elementary and middle school years.

Our caring, experienced Education Specialists bring decades of experience working with elementary students right here in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. They understand child development, creative learning approaches, and how to support families through every stage of homeschooling.

Students in grades K–8 have access to a wide range of clubs, events, and social opportunities designed to foster friendships and joy in learning.

Some of the many opportunities available throughout the year include:

• Lego Club

• Open Gym

• Art and STEM Days

• Music Classes 

• Seasonal Socials and Celebrations

• Field Trips and Family Events

• Enrichment Workshops

These events offer kids the chance to connect with peers, try new things, and explore their interests in a safe, welcoming environment. Whether your child is shy, outgoing, hands-on, or creative, there’s something at BEST just for them.

 

🎓 High School Support

For high schoolers, BEST offers:

Academic counseling from Education Specialists with decades of experience in working with high school students in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.

Credit for outside learning (like work experience or internships or outside credit coursework)

College and career guidance

Dual enrollment opportunities

Opportunities to take district-only classes focused on career and technical education (CTE) and the trades

Academic tutoring daily both in-person and online

🏫 Access to Attendance Area Schools

All BEST students, regardless of grade level, may:

Take up to two in-person courses at their attendance area school each semester at no cost or wait time.

Participate in sports and extracurricular activities at their attendance area school without any additional fees or paperwork.

 

🎉 Community & Events

BEST offers a community with social events, field trips, family activities, and celebrations throughout the year.

There are also a wide variety of student clubs and interest-based activities available to encourage social interaction and personal growth.

Student showcases, performances, and graduation ceremonies are also offered.
